Throughout the season, drivers compete for points in various NI Points Championships. These typically run from World Final to World Final, and are used to regrade drivers every four meetings.
Junior Productions NI Points Championship runs from National Championship to National Championship, whilst the Thunder Rods runs from Irish Championship to Irish Championship.

National Bangers and 1600 Rookie Bangers are called the DMC Race Promotions Points Championship and also run from World Final to World Final.

Domestic meetings see points scored as follows in all formulae:
Heats: 13,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1.
Finals: 15,13, 12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1.
Destruction Derby: 14 points to winner.
Additionally, some formulae compete in mini-series which have their own points structure.

Each driver is re-graded after every four meetings based on their season average at that point, with some other factors taken into account.
If a driver wins a race at a meeting, they will start the remainder of that meeting from the rear of their grade (unless there is a points based final).
Win two races at a meeting and they are automatically upgraded.

The National Hot Rods World Series NI utilises a separate NHRPA points scoring system. This sees the drivers re-graded after each meeting.
Their Cirrus Plastics DMC Points Championship uses the domestic points system outlined above and covers every National Hot Rod race across the calendar year.
