Oval Aces Chasing Aghadowey Glory

Stock car racing fans are in for a big night of action as Aghadowey Oval hosts a five-formula meeting on Saturday, 12th September at 6:30pm.
Sponsored by McKinney Safety Centre of Strabane, the race card features some mouth watering events, exciting Banger action and the stars of tomorrow battling it out under the floodlights.

2.0 Hot Rods
The headline event of the evening sees the culmination of the Hoosier Tyres Challenge Series for 2.0 Hot Rods. With prizes of race tyres on the line for the top three finishers, the stakes couldn't be higher. Drivers will contest two more graded heats before grid positions for the Grand Final are locked in based on aggregate points across the series. Portadown’s reigning World Champion Adam Hylands currently holds a narrow lead at the top of the standings, but he faces fierce pressure from a chasing pack that includes Irish Champion Jordan Rochford, James McKinney, and British Champion Callum Doak. Expect fast, bumper-to-bumper racing from the ‘2 Litres’. Joining the action representing HRP in Scotland will be Scarva driver William Buller.

1600 Rookie Bangers
If you love crashes, spins, and bashes, the 1600 Rookie Bangers are set to deliver galore. While it is pure entertainment and fun for the crowd, it is serious business for the drivers fighting for the prestigious DMC Gold Cup. Alan Haugh enters the event on a high after taking a stunning hat-trick of wins at the last meeting. Other major threats include Northern Ireland Points Champion Stephen Boyd of Garvagh, Aaron McGraw who has run well of late and ultimate crowd favourite Steven Bolton from Ballymoney.

Junior Productions
The stars of tomorrow—aged between 11 and 16 years old—will battle for the coveted King of Aghadowey title. Utilising the challenging reverse-grid format for the qualifying heats, close racing is assured with overtaking at a premium. Antrim’s superstar Leyton Hughes is the man with the target on his back, arriving not only as the defending champion but as the current British, National, and Irish Champion. Looking to dethrone him are recent winner Charlie Johnston of Larne, Irish Open Champion Jack Morrison of Portadown, and Loughgall's Casey Cherry.

Thunder Rods
Guaranteed to bring massive grids, this entry-level formula always delivers maximum action. The huge field means track space will be limited as drivers relentlessly jostle for position. Limavady’s Liam Wilson and Ballymena’s James Goldie are tipped as the main men to beat. Fans should also keep a close eye on Adam McKinney, Mark McLaughlin, and the always-competitive McMullan brothers.

Ninja Karts
The fearless 6 to 11-year-olds return in their high-speed winged karts, proving that age is just a number when it comes to bravery on the ovals! Belfast's Harry Hoy is back in search of victory after winning last time out. He faces stiff competition from Richhill's Jack Murphy (the reigning Irish & Irish Open Champion), Scotch Street ace Ollie Williamson and Jaxon Cairns, the Portadown star who is nearing the age limit and looking to end his karting career on a high.
