Back On Track At Aghadowey Oval

High octane stock car racing returns to Aghadowey Oval on Saturday, 8th August, at 6.30pm, featuring a spectacular five-formula billing including the annual Junior Productions Young Trophy. The event promises exciting race action across a variety of classes, showcasing local talent and some newly crowned champions.

2.0 Hot Rods
A star studded 2.0 Hot Rods grid marks something of a homecoming for teenage sensation Callum Doak. The Portadown racer returns to the scene of his magnificent British Championship triumph just last month.
Doak will face the ultimate test against World Champion Adam Hylands and current Irish Champion Jordan Rochford, who enters the weekend high on confidence after winning at Tullyroan on the formula’s last outing. Antrim’s Conor Hughes, the Internations Cup holder, adds further elite quality to a very strong field.

Junior Productions
The rising stars of the sport take centre stage for The Young Trophy, a prestigious annual cup presented by the Young and Hosie families. Fresh from securing the Irish Open title, Portadown’s Jack Morrison will be eager to add more glory to his season. He faces a formidable challenge from reigning British and National Champion Leyton Hughes of Antrim.
Other contenders including defending champion Casey Cherry and Noah Teggart are expected to push the pace, while recent newcomer Luke Goligher will be targeting a strong bounce-back performance after losing a hat-trick of wins at the last meeting due to a minor technical infringement.

Lightning Rods
Expect intense, bumper-to-bumper action from the Lightning Rods, where Portadown's Nigel Jackson leads the NI Points Championship standings and Broughshane’s Mark McBurney currently heads the points chase for the end of season Irish Championship race. Both face a grid packed with title-winning pedigree, including European Champion Jake Morgan, World Champion Mark Corry and Irish Champion Ross Houston.
However, the man with the momentum is Jackson, who took a superb victory in the recent Tullyroan Challenge Cup and remains in peak form.

Thunder Rods
The budget-friendly, entry level Thunder Rods never fail to deliver close and unpredictable racing. All eyes will be on Limavady's Liam Wilson, who currently leads the NI Points Championship. He will be hunted down by local favourite and reigning Irish Champion James Goldie of Ballymena.
DMC Gold Cup winner Adam McKinney will be firmly in the mix for podium honours, while Kilrea driver Joshua McMullan hopes to repeat the winning form that saw him take the chequered flag last time out up at Tullyroan Oval.

Ninja Karts
The youngest racers on the circuit, aged between 6 and 11, will provide maximum entertainment in their exciting Ninja Karts. Double champion Jack Murphy, who holds both the Irish and Irish Open titles, leads the entry list alongside Northern Ireland Points Champion Ollie Williamson.
Fresh from a brilliant third-place finish at the recent British Championship, Jaxon Cairns is also heavily tipped to challenge for the race wins.

There is a 6.30pm start time this Saturday night for what shapes up to be a very competitive session of short oval motorsport.
