  In our latest points update, a number of formulas have seen their standings published.
In the AM Motorsport DMC National Bangers Points Championship, last weekend's exciting encounter saw Leonard Dunn snatch the win in the championship whilst Paul Compelli just pipped Rodney Herron for the second spot on the grid in next month's World Championship at Ipswich.
In the Superstox, they have just one more meeting left (this Saturday, Sept 19th at Aghadowey Oval) before their important World Championship qualification ends. Kyle Beattie is already assured of the win, and with it a draw for pole position in the World Final, whilst there is a huge battle for the places. A regrading for the Superstox, sponsored by Mk2 Escort Shells & Spares, also sees post-lockdown sensations Steven Haugh and young Graham Meek both move back on the grid.
In the Lightning Rods, the 2020/21 Ryan Wright Signs NI Points Championship is led by James McKinney after 4 meetings, with Tam Agnew, Nigel Jackson and Stuart Agnew next up.
The 2020 Cirrus Plastics DMC Race Promotions Championship for National Hot Rods see Derek Martin now ahead of Adam Hylands and Glenn Bell after their latest outing, whilst finally in the 2020/21 Autoweld NI Points Championship for 1300 Stock Cars it is 16 year old sensation Jonathan Brown who tops the chart after a fantastic start to his senior career.

 The weather was far from ideal with persistent rain for most of the evening, but it failed to dampen the on track action at Tullyroan Oval on Saturday night. Packed grids were the order of the day, with Kells driver Carl Sloan taking a handsome heat and final double in Round 4 of the Simpson Race Exhausts World Series NI for National Hot Rods.
Donemana’s Leonard Dunn underlined his star man status in the Unlimited National Bangers with victory in the Tullyroan Supercup, whilst the other big winners at the McElmeel Mobility Services and Ray McGrath Transport sponsored event were Portadown’s World Champion Nigel Jackson in the Lightning Rods and Aughnacloy’s Kyle Beattie in the Superstox
Lurgan’s Ian McReynolds was the first to show in the opening National Hot Rods heat as the drivers adapted well to the tricky conditions. Carl Sloan was on a mission though from the blue grade, and he ran down Ian just past half distance to grab the spoils ahead of McReynolds and Shane Murray. McReynolds again set the heat two pace, and this time Ian had enough in hand to hold Sloan at bay to take a well deserved victory. Behind the lead duo, Derek Martin inherited third place after Jaimie McCurdy was docked two places for a jump start.
McReynolds quickly jumped ahead in the final, but Sloan was rapidly on the move to give chase. Carl slipped in front on lap eight, edging out quite an advantage too. Shane Murray was catching the eye as well, leaving the rest of the star grade trailing in his wake as he coolly worked his way up to second. Sloan was well down the road by this stage, but a sterling effort by Murray saw him chipping away at the advantage of the Kells driver. Murray just ran out of laps to mount a challenge, as Sloan completed a morale boosting heat and final double in some style. Derek Martin, McCurdy and Glenn Bell completed the top five.
A fine field of Unlimited National Bangers thrilled the fans as they always do, with Steven Bolton the first to show in the Tullyroan Supercup race. Amidst the carnage, Bolton got removed from the lead as Davey O’Connor raced past to take up the running. Local points champion Leonard Dunn was easily the fastest car on track though, and he soon raced ahead to take the silverware ahead of O’Connor and Kieran McIvor.
The Allcomers event saw Lisburn’s Rodney Herron take some huge hits as his Volvo got destroyed on the Tullyroan Bend, and it was former World Champion Bolton who led them home to take a great win over Dunn and McIvor.
A bruising Destruction Derby completed the night, with McIvor snatching the victory after a head to head with O’Connor. Tony Gillespie was named Entertainer of the Night, with Herron collecting the Best Wreck award.

A fantastic twenty Lightning Rods took to the grid for their Tullyroan Challenge Cup, with recent form man Stuart Agnew from Magheralin just getting the better of a great fight with Richard Stewart to take the win. World Champion Jackson made great progress to third ahead of Ally Neill, the latter back in his old car after a huge shunt at Aghadowey a week ago. The Agnew brothers have been a revelation in 2020 since switching to the Lightning Rods, and after Stuart’s heat one victory it was his brother Tam who grabbed the glory in heat two. In a grandstand finish as the front five raced to the line together, Tam got the verdict over Mark Corry and James McKinney.
On aggregate points Jackson had annexed pole position for the Tullyroan Challenge Cup final, and as a renowned ‘rain-master’ it was no surprise to see him quickly assume the lead. In a masterclass performance, Nigel underlined his World Champion status by racing to an emphatic win, with Neill also excelling in second ahead of McKinney and Tam Agnew.
A strong showing of twenty Superstox saw Ed Davis take a polished victory in heat one, relegating young star Graham Meek in the closing stages. Irish Champion Kyle Beattie laid down a marker in that one by charging through from the rear of the grid to third, and he went on to take the chequered flag in heat two after a blinding drive. Davis and Jamie McCann filled the places ahead of Sean Mark and David Beattie.
In the final McCann showed great pace early on the pull clear at the front, but as they headed for the closing stage he had Kyle Beattie looming large in his mirrors. The Aughnacloy star had given yet another lesson in wet weather driving, and he bumpered his way past McCann as they headed to the one lap to go marker. Kyle completed a great double for the evening, with McCann, David Beattie and Lee Davison rounding out the top four.
The Superstox got a 10 lap Dash For Cash to complete the evening, kindly sponsored by the Moffett family. McCann made up for losing out on the final win with a great victory in this one over Kyle Beattie and Mark.

 Our first regrading of the season for the DMC formulas has come a little later than expected, with the 2.0 Hot Rods now updated after their fourth meeting since lockdown.
Drew McKeown sits on top of the 2020/21 Racemart NI Points Championship, with a 14 point advantage over Jordan Rochford, and this will see both rise to the star grade from their next meeting.
Over the lockdown period where we had our lengthy break from racing, we have taken the opportunity to tweak our points process, with all classes now contesting their NI Points Championships from World Final to World Final in line with other promotions across the UK (or Irish Championship to Irish Championship for Junior Productions & Thunder Rods etc). |

 After an excellent evening of race action at Aghadowey Oval, Antrim’s Stephen Emerson and Belfast’s Jon McQuillan were both crowned King of Aghadowey after splendid displays in the 2.0 Hot Rods and 1300 Stock Cars respectively.
Other feature race winners in the Trophies NI of Ballymena sponsored event were Glarryford’s Johny Gillespie in the Stock Rods, Portadown’s World Champion Nigel Jackson in the Lightning Rods and another Portadown racer, Sam Preston, in the Thunder Rods.
Another excellent entry of 2.0 Hot Rods took to the grid for the King of Aghadowey, especially pleasing after the huge crash only a week previous at Tullyroan which damaged a number of cars. Dean McFarland led the opener away but was soon relegated by a great outside line pass from former British Champion Stuart Cochrane. Cochrane went on to take the win over Irish Champ Adam Best and Stephen Emerson. The reverse grid heat two saw Banbridge driver Denver Grattan take a pleasing win, over Emerson and Jordan Rochford.
Emerson and Best shared the front row for the King of Aghadowey decider, and as Best struggled from his outside berth start, Emerson pulled clear out front. Cochrane stepped forward to challenge for the lead, but Emerson had all under control to successfully defend his title. Cochrane, Rochford and Drew McKeown were next home.
The action packed 1300 Stock Cars were also contesting their King of Aghadowey title, with two recent graduates from the junior ranks, Gareth Halliday and Jonathan Brown, claiming a heat victory apiece. Robbie Wright and Brown followed Halliday home in the opener, before Wright and Fionn Donnelly were the placemen to sixteen year old Brown in heat two.
The bumpers had been put to good use in the heats, but the final was truly remarkable race! Early on Wright was turned aside and his huge threat was gone, as Brown, Josh McKinstry and Jon McQuillan contested the lead. Lap after lap they traded blows, and the lead, in true stock car style, with McQuillan just getting the nod on the line to claim the King of Aghadowey crown. Brown was excellent value in second, with McKinstry left to make do with third having played a leading part in proceedings throughout.

The well subscribed Stock Rods division were action packed as always, with so little between a huge number of cars. Larne’s Samuel Wilson eventually claimed the heat one victory after a lengthy Stewards Enquiry which went on for some time, and that only after first across the line Rick Purdy was docked for contact during the race. Wilson inherited the win over Stevie McNiece and Purdy, before Samuel Montgomery claimed the heat two win after holding off Johny Gillespie all the way home.
Gillespie had annexed pole position for the final, and he quickly assumed a lead that would be under constant threat for the duration of the Trophies NI sponsored event. Johny held off the advances of firstly former World title holder Stevie McNiece, and then the current gold roof holder Derek McMillan. Try as they might, they just couldn’t pierce Gillespie’s stubborn resistance and it was Johny who took a well deserved feature race victory. Jonny Cardwell and Adam McFall filled out the podium places after McMillan was demoted to fourth for contact.
Dermot Tynan led away a busy field of Lightning Rods in their opening heat, and he held on for much of the distance before losing out late on to an excellent outside line challenge from James McKinney. Stuart Agnew and Nigel Jackson filled the places, before Agnew went on the claim the chequered flag in heat two ahead of Mark McCambridge and McKinney.
Tynan led the final until McCambridge found a way past, but he was soon hunted down by McKinney, Jackson and Agnew. Just as Jackson went for the outside pass, there was contact amongst the dice which saw both he and McCambridge lose out. McKinney raced ahead to take the flag, but after a lengthy inquest in Race Control he was unfortunately demoted to third for his part in the race changing incident. Jackson thus inherited the victory, ahead of Agnew and McKinney.
A huge field of Thunder Rods completed the programme, with Garvagh novice Dean Catherwood racing to a polished win in heat one over Simon McLaughlin and Simon Lamont. The star names again failed to make much impact in the second heat, with Ryan Nixon from Donemana taking the second novice grade win of the evening having fended off a late onslaught from Lamont and Sam Preston.
Preston was the first to show in the feature race, with the pressure mounting on his lead during a mid race caution period which brought the pack onto his tail. Portadown man Sam quickly got into his stride once again as they returned to racing, holding on out front to make in three wins out of three for the novices! Behind deserved winner Preston, Nixon, Adam Graham, Lamont and McLaughlin completed the top places.

 On a night of big grids and high drama at Tullyroan Oval, Portadown’s Gary Woolsey came on strong very late in the National Hot Rods feature race to take the honours in Round 3 of Simpson Race Exhausts World Series NI. Woolsey ran down long time leader Simon Kennedy, slipping ahead in the closing stages for a great victory.
The Lee Cherry Memorial Trophy was the major race for the 2.0 Hot Rods, and it was won by Cork’s Ian Riordan whilst The Moffett Shield for the Superstox fell to Steven Haugh, after he completed a faultless hat-trick across the evening. The other winners at the Cherry Pipes sponsored event were Meath’s Peter McConnell in the Rookie Bangers and Antrim’s Leyton Hughes, with Leyton being another hat-trick winner in the Ninja Karts.
Another full field of National Hot Rods were a sight to behold around the Tullyroan bowl, with Lurgan’s Simon Kennedy showing great pace to take the heat one victory over Podge McQuaid and Keith Martin, with the majority of the field coming over the line as one. Heat two saw more high speed action, with Podge McQuaid this time a deserved victor over the rapid duo of Ben McKee and Gary Woolsey.
The final, Round 3 of Simpson Race Exhausts World Series NI, saw Kennedy set a lightning pace up front early on, pulling out quite a lead. Woolsey was quickly on the chase, slowly but surely reducing the deficit as the race progressed. With the lap boards out, a hesitation from Kennedy saw Woolsey swoop, taking up the running and securing the win. Derek Martin and Kennedy completed the podium, but only after McKee was docked from second for contact during the race.
Despite losing a couple of cars to mechanical woes during practice, there were still 19 cars on hand for the 2.0 Hot Rods Lee Cherry Memorial Trophy. Jordan Rochford led the early stages of heat one before hitting trouble, which gifted the lead and the win to Allen Cherry over Ian Riordan and Adam Best. The reversed grid second heat saw Denver Grattan take the victory, with the Banbridge man leading home Conor Hughes and Mervyn Emerson.
Mervyn Emerson led the final away from pole position, but Riordan quickly found a way underneath him early on to take up the running. The race was brought up short mid-race by a huge turn one crash, caused when Gary Grattan blew an engine at the end of the home straight and coated the track with oil. Thankfully all those who hit the wall on the oil slick eventually emerged relatively unscathed, and on the resumption of racing Riordan kept his cool to power home to a well deserved win and with it the superb Lee Cherry Memorial Trophy. Emerson enjoyed his best run in some time to second, with Hughes and Rochford next home.

The annual Moffett Shield for Superstox attracted a fantastic 21 cars, which included former Junior Productions champion Graham Meek on his senior debut. Graham led the early laps of heat one before a caution period for a huge rollover for Ed Davis on the Tullyroan Bend. Ed emerged none the worse for wear from his acrobatics, with Steven Haugh taking over out front to take the win from Irish Champion Kyle Beattie and British Champion Lee Davison. Brian Lammey had a great run at the start of heat two, the novice grader leading the pack throughout the first half of the race. Haugh then moved ahead once again, claiming his second win of the night over Meek with Davis in third – quite a comeback for Ed after his huge heat one wreck!
The Moffett Shield Final saw Haugh promoted to the yellow grade after his two heat wins, with Meek again the early pacesetter. Haugh quickly sliced through once again though, edging clear to take the flag and the Moffett Shield in style. Meek impressed greatly with second on his debut, and the white/yellow grade award, with Jamie McCann also having a good run to third ahead of Scot Dean Johnston and Paddy Murphy.
There was action aplenty all around the track with over 30 Rookie Bangers on the circuit. The fantastic turnout produced some great racing, with Peter McConnell taking the opener ahead of Josh Goligher and Paul O’Connor. Heat two was all about Jake Macnicol, who steered his Ford Puma to victory lane over McConnell and O’Connor.
The Cherry Pipes sponsored final returned 27 cars after some great pit work by the teams, and it turned into an action packed affair. McConnell and Macnicol swapped the lead up front as many others got themselves into all sorts of bother. There was a big rollover on turn three, and after the restart McConnell emerged victorious for his second win of the night, this time over Deano McGrath and Goligher.
Another very healthy field of Ninja Karts completed the bill, with Irish Champion Leyton Hughes taking advantage of restarts in all three races to take a fine hat-trick of wins. On each occasion Leyton pounced when the caution periods closed the karts together late on, taking the opening heat in sensational fashion over Noah Teggart and Riley Dawson-Stirling after having spun and lost a lot of time in the early stages! Heat two saw Leyton lead home Ryan Berry and Teggart, before Teggart looked odds on to win the final having built up quite a lead. The caution period for a crash late on came at just the wrong time for Noah, allowing Hughes to get the jump to take the win after a last lap battle with Dawson-Stirling. Riley had to settle for second over Teggart and Ben Hawe.
